Work Habits

Reading

1. Identify letters and corresponding sounds of the alphabet; use this skill to decode words in reading
2. Track print from left to right and top to bottom
3. Handle a book correctly and identify certain parts of the book (cover, pages, pictures, words)
4. Recognize some simple sight words in text (such as I, the, and, we...)
5. Use picture clues and context clues to decode unknown words
6. Use rhyming (word families) to read words (at, cat, bat...)
7. Enjoy listening to, reading, and discussing stories

 

Writing

1. Identify letters and corresponding sounds of the alphabet; use this skill to write unknown words
2. Use drawings to represent thoughts during Writer's Workshop and progress towards representing thoughts with words and sentences.
3. Be able to write simple sight words (I, we, and ...) effortlessly during Writer's Workshop
4. Write a sentence using letter sound association and known sight words. The sentence should have spaces between words, a capital letter in the beginning, and punctuation.
5. Respond to a story in writing by telling what they liked or didn't like and why
6. Respond to a story in writing or drawing about how it is similar to their own life
7. Use rhyming (word families) to write words (at, cat, bat...)


Speaking and Listening
1. Retell a story using their own words
2. Answer comprehension questions about a particular story
3. Orally express thoughts in a sequential order
4. Listen, remember, and follow directions

Math

1. Understanding directionality (top, bottom, under, over, left, right...)
2. Understand the calendar, months, days of the week, and seasons
3. Count to at least 31 by 1's and to 100 by 5's and 10's
4. Recognize the 6 basic shapes, reproduce them, and identify shapes in their environment
5. Classify and sort objects by given criteria (shape, color, and size)
6. Compare quantity, shape, and sizes by using terms more than, less than, and equal to
7. Recognize, reproduce, and extend patterns (visual and auditory)
8. Understand sets of objects and count using 1-1 correspondence

9. Sequence numbers from 0-10 and apply terms such as first, second, third...

10. Graph a given set of objects
11. Recognize and write the numbers 0-31
12. Predict and guess
13. Measure using standard (rules) and nonstandard (hands) means
14. Recognize, learn the names, and the value of pennies, nickels, dimes, and quarters
15. Tell time to the hour (both digital and analog)
