Your Writer’s Scrapbook Page

Congratulations! You are coming to Kindergarten!

In Kindergarten you will become a writer! This summer we want you to start practicing by keeping a writer’s scrapbook. This is a place to keep track of all the fun things you do over the summer. You can put anything you want into your writer’s scrapbook but here are some suggestions to help you get started.

*Make lists (friends names, favorite foods, pets)

*Your own drawings. Have mom or dad help you write some words for your picture

*Tape in stuff –like photographs, postcards, ticket stubs from movies or amusement parks

*Try writing a few things that you like to do, the places you like to go, or things you like the most. Make sure you have a grown up help with the words too.

*Try making up your own story. Again, have mom or dad help you.

Try to do a few pages. Have fun with your scrapbook. Be proud of what you put into it. When you come to Kindergarten in September, bring your scrapbook with you. You can share your scrapbook with your friends and everyone will have fun looking at what you put in it. We will look forward to seeing what kinds of neat things you put in your scrapbook.

See you soon!

Reading Expectations

Parents and Students: This is a copy of the letter that you received at the end of June with your reading folder. The sheets and more directions are in the folder. Just in case you lost the directions, here is the letter

Dear Friends,

We encourage our children to read many kinds of stories. This summer when you read the type of story described on one of Hilda’s polka dots, color in that dot. Try to get ALL the dots colored in before school starts.
There are also some pictures we want you to draw about. Read the directions with a grown-up’s help.
Remember it is important that you bring your summer reading folder back on the very first day of school. It is your ticket to a dance party in September! You will need to read at least 5 books and return your reading folder to attend the celebration.
The same books you list for school can be listed on the Barnes and Noble form. Even though their program is called ‘A Series of Unfortunate Events’, you can read any books of your choice. It is your responsibility to take the completed Barnes and Noble form to any of their stores to choose your free book from the selection in their display. You can get a second form from them and get a second free book.
We will be looking forward to all those wonderful pictures when school starts.
