Camden Football Honor Game vs VVS

The Camden Blue Devil Football Team played an outstanding game vs. VVS on Friday Night and came away with a crucial win to keep their playoff hopes alive. The team began the evening by honoring our military men and women-both retired and active. The Blue Devils came into the game after a 1-3 start to the season and was hosting the previously unbeaten Red Devils (4-0). Most were not giving the Blue Devils a shot at victory but the team believed in themselves and were able to gut out a hard fought victory 31 to 20.

Camden started hot scoring on the third play of the game. Kaden Gabler connected with Gavin Vera for a 60 yard touchdown pass. On the play Tyler Parent and Josh Mayden made great blocks that allowed Vera to demonstrate his speed on the edge as he scampered 60 yards to give Camden the lead 7 to 0. VVS quickly responded taking the kickoff back 83 yards for a score to knot the game up 7 to 7. VVS would score again to go up 14 to 7 at the end of the 1st quarter.

In the second quarter the Blue Devil Defense took over and gave the team the momentum they would need to get the win. VVS was on another offensive drive into Camden’s end when Mason Gerber intercepted a pass and ran down the sideline for about 75 yards. On the play Colby Johnson and Tyler Parent made great blocks to spring Gerber to the endzone. The team then quickly held VVS to a 3 and out and took over on offense with the game tied 14 to 14. On the 1st play from scrimmage Gabler hooked up with Tyler Parent for a 70 yard touchdown score and the Blue Devils never trailed again. On the next VVS possession Josh Mayden intercepted a pass and ran it back 45 yards to but Camden on top 28 to 14. VVS scored late in the second quarter and the halftime score was Camden 28 and VVS 20.

The entire second half was a defensive battle. Gavin Vera connected on a 41 yard field goal in the fourth quarter which put the Blue Devils up by 2 scores in the game and the Camden defense did the rest, shutting out VVS in the 2nd half.

The offensive line and defense are to be commended for their efforts throughout the game. The offensive line consists of TJ Seamans, Wilson Christmas, Sean O’Brien, Kyle Larsen, Cody Birmingham and subs Dylan Wishart, Ernie Siegfried, and James Danquer. On the defensive side of the ball Wilson Christmas, Ryan Hildenbrandt, Dylan Wishart, Sean O’Brien, TJ Seamans, Cody Birmingham, Evan Bell, John Mitchell, Eric Mitchell, Justin Johnson, Ernie Siegfried, Colby Johnson, Tyler Pelton, Mike Clark, and James Danquer did an awesome job.

Congrats to the team on the win and the Blue Devils look to keep the momentum rolling at home this week for homecoming. The game is on Saturday night at 7pm vs. Mexico. Hope to see everyone there.
