Camden High School Presents Arsenic and Old Lace

The Camden High School Theatre Department proudly presents Arsenic and Old Lace, on Friday November 2nd, and Saturday November 3rd, curtain at 7 pm both nights. Tickets are $7. Sure to entertain, this is a show you won’t want to miss.
The play Arsenic and Old Lace is a farcical black comedy by Joseph Kesselring. It centers on the Brewster family, descended from the Mayflower settlers of Plymouth Rock fame, and is set in their home’s living room in the borough of Brooklyn, New York City, convincingly brought to the stage by Set Designer Anthony Dombrowski. Far from being like their Puritan ancestors, these Brewsters can literally be described as insane, homicidal maniacs!
Mortimer Brewster (Cael Sullivan) must contend with his crazy family and local Brooklyn cops, Officers O’Hara, Brophy, and Klein (Ethan Smith, Ariella Holbert, and Ayla Roark), along with Lieutenant Roony (Vivian Roser), while trying to decide whether or not he should marry Elaine Harper (Madelyn Johnson and Lillyanna Whipple), the girl next door, and daughter of the local minister (Zackary Weed).
Mortimer’s family includes two spinster aunts, Abby (Emily Henderson), and Martha (Emily Pitoniak), who murder lonely old men by poisoning them with a glass of home-made elderberry wine laced with arsenic, strychnine, and “just a pinch” of cyanide. Mortimer’s oddball family also includes his two brothers Teddy (Harrison Klun) and Jonathan (Nathan Warren).
Teddy Brewster believes he is President Theodore Roosevelt and digs locks for the Panama Canal in the cellar of the Brewster house. These locks serve as graves for the aunt’s victims, who Teddy believes died of yellow fever. Brother Jonathan is also a killer who has undergone plastic surgery performed by his alcoholic accomplice Dr. Einstein (Evan Youngs). The ensemble cast is rounded out by (Mia Willson playing) Witherspoon and (Zachery DeLoach as) Mr. Gibbs.
Will the Brooklyn PD solve the murders? Will Mortimer decide to marry Elaine? Will Teddy finish digging his canal? Find out the answers to these important questions during an evening of hilarious comedy.
