One School, One Book Closing Celebration at CMS
Readers of all ages gathered at Camden Middle School on Wednesday, October 2 from 6:00 - 7:30 p.m. to celebrate the end of Sam Gribley's journey in Jean Craighead George's novel, My Side of the Mountain. The event marked the end of CMS's One School, One Book program for this fall and aimed to celebrate all that the main character, Sam Gribley, learned during the time he spent living off the land. The closing celebration included a tree identification station, bird feeder creation station, information on fishing, fishing lures, and bird watching, a display of gear for winter hiking, a station to make your own first aid kit, a lashing demonstration, and a display of outdoor gear used in the past. In addition, Dean's Concessions provided delicious snacks, the Camden Public Library was there to encourage reading in our community, and a Scholastic Book Fair was open in the CMS media center throughout the evening. Thank you to everyone who helped with CMS's One School, One Book program, everyone who attended the event, and certainly everyone who kicked off the academic year reading My Side of the Mountain.
