Dear
Parents,
Can
you smell spring in the air yet? It
can’t be far away!
Fractions are here! They can be troublesome to fifth graders at times.
We plan to take it one day at a time as we try to work them
through and simplify them. I
strongly encourage my students to take their math books home every
weekday evening and review the lesson taught that day.
This really helps boost understanding.
Ask
your child to tell you about the novel we are presently reading, Tuck
Everlasting. We are
having some marvelous discussions about the themes of the book:
immortality, kindness and empathy toward others, and honesty.
The
first of our social studies regions is the New
England Region. Every
two weeks we’ll tackle another region until we’ve completed all
seven. If you have visited
a region we are studying, feel free to share any pictures or
souvenirs. It makes it more
exciting for all of us!
March
book reports take us to fantasyland.
Fairytales, folklore, myths, legends, and fables are also
acceptable. After completing the reading, each student will design their
own puzzle depicting their favorite scene.
You’ll get to see them at the end of the month when they bring
them home in their Friday folders.
Pen
pal letters are coming along well.
We hope to send them by March 11.
The kids are really enjoying their new friends!
Hats off to those of you with Irish
ancestry this month.
Sincerely,
Mrs. Chauncey |
