Dear Parents,
Our field trip to the Erie Canal and the Children's Museum was very nice. I was extremely proud of all the kids! they listened attentively and answered questions regarding the history of the canal. In spite of the cool temperature, it was a beautiful sunny autumn day!
The PTO sponsored the bottle and can drive last Saturday to help fund transportation for the grade four trip to Albany in June. I want to thank all the students and parents who helped out. We are still collecting bottles and cans at the school if you have any you would like to donate. PTO will sponsor a raffle at the Harvest Dinner on Thursday night to also help with the trip.
In class, we are working on the following concepts: math-decimals, problem solving, and division. I cannot stress enough how important it is that each child memorize his/her facts. Please set aside a few minutes each night to work on these. This can be done in the car, while cooking supper or cleaning up. Help your child to commit each fact family to memory one at a time. For instance, one night practice all the 3s, the next night review the 3s and then practice the 4s, etc.
In social studies, we are continuing to study about early life in New York. This week in science, we will learn about trees and their importance in our environment. As always, we write on a daily basis in all content areas.
Overall, the students did well on the district ELA. I will discuss individual scores with you during our conference on the 26th or the 31st.
Have a nice week!
Sincerely, Mrs. Kirch
