Mrs. Kirch's Newsletter
12/3/01
Dear Parents,
The next few weeks are going to be extremely busy for everyone. In Social Studies, we are continuing to study the Iroquois, and their impact on society. This week we will be finishing up Eagle Song . Our next book will be, Sign of the Beaver. We will also begin a brief research project in school, and a project at home. I will send home more information including a list of criteria and resources for the home project this week. The project will not be due until January 3rd so the kids will have a chance to work on it over vacation.
In math we are beginning to work on geometry. I will attach a list of new vocabulary words for science. Throughout the next few weeks we will be taking practice ELA tests. I will be sending assignments home that will require your signature. Your child will need help, it may be in the form of timing him/her or helping them edit and revise. Please check their student planner, it will be indicated there. We have begun to study poetry. The kids are great at coming up with couplets and quatrains!
On Friday, each student made a peanut butter and jelly sandwich based on his
or her written instructions. They had to give explicit details in order to have
an edible product J Each student chose another
student to read what they had written and they had to follow the directions
exactly. We had some pretty interesting sandwiches! All in all they did a
wonderful job. This activity was meant to demonstrate the importance
of including good details in your writing.
Is your son/daughter currently reading a book? Please ask!
Each student should now have accumulated 13 points. Have a great week.
Sincerely,
Mrs. Kirch
