Mrs. Matthews' Classroom News
|
The
last day of May has arrived, which means another month has sped past
very quickly. We still have
three weeks of learning time left, and we have many areas to cover.
This week we completed the spring district math test.
Like the ELA test, those will be graded later on, and you will be
made aware of the grades.
We completed our unit test on tropical rain forests.
Our last three weeks will be devoted to the study of
mountain and northern forest regions. Our unit on butterflies and moths and other life cycles in nature will draw to a close soon. The students planted peas this week and have taken them home to care for them and, we hope, watch them grow. We will continue studying plant life during the month of June.
We are enjoying the book, James and the Giant Peach by
Roald Dahl. We have been
writing in literature journals and will continue to do so as we read the
book.
Our track and field events were Wednesday, the 29th.
I am very proud of the class.
They were very well-behaved, they tried their best on their
events, and they displayed good sportsmanship.
The interschool track and field events will be held at the new
high school athletic field for the first time this year.
The students are excited about that.
Third graders will compete the morning of June 12th.
Just a reminder: If
your child is missing any items, you may want to check lost and found
before the end of the school year.
Many students are running out of paper and pencils.
Please send some in soon. My
supply is very low also.
For those of you who may not know, a wonderful educator and a
fabulous lady is retiring from teaching at the Bay this year.
Mrs. Wisinski, kindergarten teacher, is retiring.
She will be missed, but I am sure she will enjoy her retirement. Both my son and my daughter were fortunate enough to have her
as a teacher. I am proud to
call her my friend.
Have a wonderful weekend,
Mrs. Matthews
