We are so happy to see the May flowers finally arrive.

We had a wonderful field trip to the Burnett Park Zoo earlier this week. The students did a great job with the assignments they were given, and they had a fun time as well.

We sent letters to our Annsville pen pals this week. It is our hope that we will be able to get together with them for lunch one day before school is out.

Our unit on deserts is complete, and the unit test will be sent home today. We have begun learning about tropical rainforests. Our trip to the zoo gave us some firsthand experience as we walked through the rainforest section and observed the beautiful tropical birds in their jungle setting. We saw creatures from all the regions of the world we have studied.

We have begun a book called Amazon by Peter Lourie, a nonfiction book which gives us a realistic look at life in the Amazon rainforest. This is one of many books I use to help children learn about the rainforest regions of the world.

Our unit on basic division facts is finished, and that test will also be sent home today. We are now working on fractions and probability.

We are also studying life cycles in nature, a unit in which we focus on butterflies, moths, and plants. We will look at other life cycles for comparison purposes.

The class has finished the spring English/Language Arts test. It will be quite some time before those tests are graded, but you will be notified of your child’s grade at the end of the school year.

Homework will continue throughout the remainder of the year. As always, it is very important that we encourage our children to keep up on homework, as well as independent reading and math facts. Your help in these areas is invaluable.

Don’t forget to purchase your raffle tickets for next Saturday’s P.T.O. Carnival. There are also two baskets that the children may purchase tickets for, at 25 cents each. They are on display in the media center, and students may bring money to school at any time to buy the tickets.
