Digital Storytelling Digital Storytelling

People have been telling stories since they could first communicate with one another. The way people have told stories has changed over time as available means have changed. All stories used to be oral, then there were books, then magazines, then websites and blogs, just to name a few. These changes have allowed for stories to be told in different ways than ever before. When the first picture books came out, people could see the actual images that the author was describing. When the first blog was written, people could interact with the author immediately in ways never seen before.

Now, in schools, we have the capability to make a similar change to the way we have our students engage themselves in their own form of storytelling- the writing process. With Digital Storytelling, students can complete the same writing assignments that they always have, but now they can do them in a different, more engaging and interesting way. Now we can have our students not only writing research papers and fiction stories, but illustrating them and performing their story in their own way as they would like the "reader" or "viewer" to experience them.
