Introducing... the Bobcat Medal!!

At the McConnellsville Elementary School library, we discuss the Caldecott and Newbery medals all the time. Sometimes we even see books with the Coretta Scott King medal or the Theodore Seuss Geisel medals. But now the fifth graders at McConnellsville have the opportunity to award the Bobcat Medal to books that they think are deserving. The goal is to spread the word about great books, and encourage fellow students to read the book also!

When there is a book that a fifth grader wants to nominate for the Bobcat Medal, he/she will fill out a short nomination form to help them prepare to present the medal. Mrs. DeLosh will then use a Flip videocamera to tape the student's nomination and upload it to this blog. The last step to awarding the Bobcat Medal will be placing a bookplate inside the front cover of the book with the date and person who awarded it. Mrs. DeLosh will also place a "shelf talker" on the shelf that will showcase where to find the book.

How many Bobcat Medal books will YOU read??

The Bobcat Medal
This blog is a compilation of student book reviews. These books with the fifth grader "stamp of approval" have been awarded the high honor of the Bobcat Medal!

5. Introducing... the Bobcat Medal!!

Did you read something this summer that you think other McConnellsville students will enjoy?  Something that made you laugh? Something that made you smile? Something that made you THINK?

As you begin to read books this new school year, ask yourself "Would another student really like this book too?" If you find yourself saying "yes", then come see Mrs. DeLosh and get a Bobcat Medal nomination form. You will write down your name, class, the book's title and author, and a short sentence or two about why other students may enjoy the book. Mrs. DeLosh will videotape you giving a short book review with this information and then post it to this blog.

Students are able to make comments about Bobcat Medal books.  All comments will first be emailed to Mrs. DeLosh for review. Please remember to use friendly language, and make sure you write in complete sentences with correct spelling, or your comment will not be posted.
