Athletic Practices Kick Off With Optimism8/25/21
CAMDEN, NY - Student-athletes in the Camden Central School District are demonstrating just how eager they are to compete this school year. The 2021 Fall sports season got underway with the start of junior varsity and varsity practices on Monday, August 23rd.
Our Blue Devil student-athletes are competing in cross country, football, soccer, tennis, cheerleading, and field hockey. A full Fall sports season in its rightful place on the calendar has been a welcome sight for the Camden community, and the students have been eager to take advantage of the opportunity.
Some programs, such as cross country, chose to beat the afternoon heat by starting practice early in the morning.
Meanwhile, other Blue Devil teams began preparation throughout the day. A mid-day session with the girls' soccer program produced a spirited practice. The team was engaged in competitive situational drills and games designed to develop their decision-making skills on the pitch. Third-year head coach Ryan Misurda got in on the fun as well.
In the late afternoon and evening, the football program took to the gridiron for the first time this Fall under head coach Jake Bates. The squad used the early session of practice to focus on conditioning drills, and used the evening portion to work on sport-specific skills. In addition, the team held a kickoff session for its popular beef jerky fundraiser, which is going on now. Proceeds will benefit the football program, and players have the opportunity to earn customized incentives through the fundraiser. Any community member interested in purchasing beef jerky should contact Coach Bates, or the football player they know best.
Athletic contests begin on September 1st as the junior varsity and varsity girls' soccer programs compete against Central Square. Kickoff is set for 4:30 p.m.
