Two CHS Students Win CNY Art Awards

CAMDEN, NY - Two students at Camden High School recently received regional recognition for their artwork. Camden students Jacob Wojciechowski and Emma Bolster were chosen to receive awards as part of the prestigious 2022 CNY Scholastic Art Competition. The honors were announced by the Alliance for Young Artists and Writers.

The CNY Scholastic Art Competition is one of the most competitive scholastic art contests in the nation. It featured artwork from students in 14 counties across Central New York. This year, there were 3,495 individual entries and 118 portfolio submissions from 90 districts. To be selected, is to rank among the best out of that large pool of competitors.

It is also part of a larger, long-running national competition. Since 1923, the Scholastic Art & Writing Awards have recognized the vision, ingenuity, and talent of our nation’s youth, and provided opportunities for creative teens to be celebrated. Through the Awards, students receive opportunities for recognition, exhibition, publication, and scholarships.

Students across America submitted more than 330,000 original works last year in 29 different categories of art and writing.

Camden students participate in the contest annually, and the District was fortunate enough to have two winners take home five total regional awards.

Wojciechowski received 1 honorable mention award, and two silver key awards for photography. His submission entitled “Aglow” received an honorable mention, while his works titled “Distortion” and “Blossoms” were awarded the silver key.

Bolster received a silver key award for drawing and illustration, and another silver key for photography. Her drawing work was entitled “My Inspiration”, while her photography work is named “Illuminating Suspicions”.

Camden High School art teacher Amy Andrews offered her thoughts on the competition results in a few words.

“Congratulations to our award winners, and to all of the students who submitted work for the show,” Andrews said. “I am so proud of you all!”

The award-winning artwork will be displayed with other regional winners at Onondaga Community College during the month of February.
