Lainie Liberatore on the Golf Course

On Tuesday, May 27th, Camden High School senior Lainie Liberatore took part in the 2025 Section III Division II Girls’ Golf Championship. This year’s tournament was held on the 5,456 yard East Course layout at Rogue’s Roost Golf Club in Bridgeport.

Liberatore, a TVL All-Star in all four years of high school, has long been her team’s top player at Camden. She last qualified for the State Championships in 2023, and was an alternate in 2024. She narrowly missed out on a second consecutive appearance by a single stroke.

She took a big step toward a return to state-level competition on Tuesday with an eighth place finish among a tough field. She carded a round of 101, and made the State Qualifier cut by eight shots. The cut is determined as the top 30 percent of competitors in each division.

She now turns her attention to that event, which will be held at the Cedar Lake Club in Clayville on Thursday, May 29th. She will need to finish in the top nine to qualify for this year’s Section III state team, and head coach Paul Calicchia feels that a second appearance is within reach.

“This year she is in a very competitive field,” he said. “If she plays her game, there is no doubt that she can be one of those top nine golfers representing Section III in Rochester.”

The 2025 NYSPHSAA Girls’ Golf Championships will be held at Wild Wood Country Club in Rush, a suburb of Rochester, from June 7th to 9th. And if Liberatore gets the chance to attend, she'll have a nice preview of one of the local courses near her college destination. She is slated to attend Nazareth University in Rochester, and intends to play NCAA golf while there.
