Cross Country Seniors

On Tuesday, September 16th, the varsity cross country program held its Senior Day festivities ahead of a dual meet with Holland Patent, Utica Proctor, and Utica Notre Dame.

In total, six seniors were recognized for their participation in the cross country program. For the Camden boys’ squad, Eli Reed and Bart Seidl were the day’s honorees. For the Blue Devil girls, competitors Faith Beaulac, Charlotte York, and Izabella Johnson were celebrated.

The program also took the time to celebrate student coach Daisy Strebel. While she doesn’t compete, Daisy has become a valuable extension of the coaching staff working with athletes in the program at all levels, particularly with the modified team. She has been with the program since seventh grade.

On the course, the Blue Devil varsity boys prevailed in the scoring over two of their three opponents. They swept Notre Dame with a perfect fifteen points against the Jugglers, and defeated Holland Patent 19-36. They narrowly lost to Proctor by a single point, 28-27. Brenden Chennells was second overall with a time of 19:00. Damien Sands was sixth at 20:27 to spearhead a tight scoring pack for the Blue Devils that took up four consecutive places across a spread of just 38 seconds. Jaxon Woodcock was seventh in 20:43, senior Elisha Reed was eighth with a time of 21:00, and Ian Halbritter was ninth with a time of 21:04.

The Camden varsity girls also won two out of three. They defeated Notre Dame 27-30, and were just a heartbeat ahead of Holland Patent by a 27-28 score. Proctor defeated the Blue Devils 21-40. Ninth grader Kyla Woodcock was the fastest Camden girls’ finisher in the varsity race with a clocking of 25:43, the fourth best time among girls’ competitors at the meet. Charlotte York was eighth in girls’ competition with a performance of 27:20. Izabella Johnson, a first year senior runner, was sixteenth with a time of 30:23. Megan Renk was 21st after traversing the course in 31:06, and narrowly missed out on 20th on a tight battle into the finish chute. Lilah Armstrong was Camden’s fifth and final scorer as the junior logged a time of 33:46.

In the modified race, Kynlee Roes was tenth fastest on the overall timing sheet with a mark of 13:56, and was the second fastest girl on the course. Sydney Renk was 20th overall at 17:05, and eighth among girls’ competitors. Rachyl Bray (21:11) and Angelycz Hernandez (22:19) rounded out the competitors for the Blue Devils.
