Ivy Murphy

The Camden High School varsity cross country team will have two student-athletes moving on to state level competition. Seniors Ivy Murphy and Jerome Seidl have earned the opportunity to compete at the upcoming NYSPHSAA Cross Country Championship to be held on Saturday, November 12th at Vernon-Verona-Sherrill High School.

The duo qualified through their performances at the Section III Championships, also held at Vernon-Verona-Sherrill on Saturday, November 5th.

In girls’ competition, Murphy finished seventh overall to clinch her second state meet appearance, and her first as an individual qualifier. She got around the five kilometer course in a time of 22:42. Murphy previously appeared at states as part of Camden’s 2019 state championship team, and narrowly missed out on a chance to appear at the 2021 championship. Camden finished fifth in the girls’ team competition for Class B.

In boys’ competition, Seidl is headed to a second consecutive state championship meet with his qualifying performance on Saturday. He was in contention for the win, but ultimately ended up as the runner-up finisher in a terrific outing. His time of 17:59 for five kilometers was eleven seconds faster than his time in the same meet last year. The Blue Devils finished third in the boys’ team competition for Class B with 92 points.

Ivy will compete in the Class B girls’ championship race at 2 p.m., while Jerome will toe the line in the Class B boys’ championship race at 11:30 a.m.

Meet information can be found here. Admission must be purchased in advance and will be charged per vehicle.
