Mr. Takacs presents the check

The Camden High School chapter of the National Honor Society is pleased to announce it has received a pair of generous donations from the Mystic Stamp Company, and Donald and Chacea Sundman. The society received the donations from America’s Leading Stamp Dealer during a presentation on Wednesday, April 3rd in the Camden High School Library Media Center.

The very generous donations totaled $10,000, and came in the form of two separate checks in the amount of $5,000 each, with one from the company and another from the family. The Sundman family has led Mystic Stamp since 1974.

The funds will be primarily used to assist the chapter with expenses for its trip to Washington, DC on Friday, April 5th. While in the nation’s capital, society members will have the opportunity to visit the Smithsonian’s National Postal Museum and tour the National Mall.

The National Postal Museum includes items from Mystic Stamp in its collection. The Sundman family has enhanced the Museum’s offerings in a variety of ways. Donald and David Sundman established the Maynard Sundman Lecture Series at the museum in 2002 in recognition of their father’s work in the industry. The series hosts a variety of guests who are experts in stamps and stamp collecting. Donald also donated a remarkable $250,000 in 2010 to support a museum expansion.

The checks were presented to the National Honor Society by Mystic Stamp employee Michael Takacs, who has been with the company for about 15 years. Takacs is a 2003 graduate of Camden High School.

Advisors Heidi Libertella and Christina McCarthy are thankful for the support, as the funds will be used to enhance the student experience on this trip and beyond. By a show of hands at the check presentation, just a handful of NHS members have ever been to Washington.

“We are so very grateful for the support of a great local company like Mystic Stamp, and of course, the Sundman family,” they said. “Their generosity speaks very highly of the value they see in providing this experience to our young student leaders in the National Honor Society. We are excited to get down there, see the inspiring sights of our Nation’s capital, and see a touch of our hometown’s influence on the industry along the way.”
