CHS Senior Choir Members Sing The Alma Mater

As the sun descended to illuminate the Camden High School stadium in a brilliant golden hue, the class of 2025 was enjoying a radiant golden hour of its very own against that backdrop. 167 graduates were on hand to celebrate the end of their journey as Camden students as the Camden Central School District held its 137th Commencement Ceremony.

With the entire class gathered in the same place for what will likely be the final time, principal Aaron Fiorini broke down the range of ambitions that will drive their paths forward. 54 percent will pursue higher education of some kind. 42 percent will step right into the workforce, and four percent will answer the calling of military service.

In his opening remarks, Fiorini also elaborated on some of the traits that will bind this class together, even as they go their separate ways.

“You have shown remarkable resilience, heart, and humor,” he said. “Through every challenge and change, you stood strong. You’ve built a legacy rooted in empathy, authenticity, and the power of community. You've made us laugh, inspired us with your kindness, and reminded us that unity is our greatest strength…. Your potential is limitless—go show us what’s possible.”

The top graduates in the class offered words of wisdom to help their classmates do exactly that. Valedictorian Thomas Potter emphasized the importance of making a strong difference within your own place in the world, and to the people that matter most to you - even if it doesn’t necessarily change the course of the entire globe.

“I can’t say with confidence that our class is going to go out there and change the world, it’s just too big,” he said. “But you are all going to go out there and create your own little pockets in the world, surrounded by the people who love you. Try to have the biggest impact you can in that place.”

Salutatorian Annaka Stauring emphasized one of her own guiding principles - finding joy.

“Find joy. Don’t simply choose it, because it often isn’t a choice,” Stauring said. “Don’t simply accept it because it will so often not be offered. Don’t wait for it to arrive or it will always pass you by. Instead, seek it out, hunt it down, hold on tight and never let it go... Find the things that make you happy and cling to them as hard as you can. A book, a movie, a show, a recipe. A trinket from your mom, a toy from your childhood, the project you spent hours on. This sweatshirt, that necklace, those shoes. Your best friend, your sister, your mother. Find joy in waking up, in going to work, in coming home and making dinner and falling asleep. I cannot promise it will be easy, most of the time it won’t, but that’s why we call them challenges.”

Amidst the pomp and circumstance of the evening, key traditions continued. Members of the class of 1975 celebrated 50 years since their own graduation by sitting with the platform party. The ideal senior award, conferred at graduation annually, went to Calli Evans.
