The Camden High School varsity cross country programs take the next step in the 2025 postseason on Saturday, November 8th as they compete in the Section III Cross Country Championships hosted by the Mount Markham Central School District. The Blue Devils will compete in the Class B races, with girls’ competition set for 2:05 PM, and boys’ competition set for the final race of the day at 3:10 PM.
The top team, and top five individuals not on the winning team in each class, advance to the state meet the following weekend in Queensbury, NY.
In girls’ competition, the Blue Devils have entered Kyla Woodcock, Charlotte York, Madisyn Fuller, Megan Renk, Adrienne Chesebro, Izabella Johnson, Stella Spellicy, Olivia Potter and Emma Wilson. In the latest TullyRunners speed ratings, Woodcock leads the way for Camden with a season best of 48 to rank 33rd in Class B as a freshman. She was Camden’s top finisher at the recent TVL Championship Meet hosted by Central Valley Academy, with a 22nd place finish and a time of 24:31. York and Fuller also posted a time fast enough to rank on the TullyRunners leaderboard this season. As a senior, York enters ranked 48th with a 29 speed rating, and Fuller is 53rd with a rating of 24. The pairing was 27th and 28th, respectively, at the TVL Championship Meet. The Blue Devils were seventh in the team standings at that meet. York and Fuller are the only two returning athletes to compete at the 2024 Section III Championship for the Camden girls.
The speed rating formula approximates each course by distance and difficulty to provide a comparable assessment of athletes and performances regardless of where they’re competing in a given week.
In boys’ competition, many eyes will be on Brenden Chennells. The 2025 Section III 800 Meter champion on the track will be firmly in the hunt for an individual state qualifier spot on Saturday with a good performance. He is ranked thirteenth in Class B with a peak speed rating of 146, and placed fifteenth at the recent TVL Championship Meet with a time of 19:00 flat to lead the Blue Devils in their seventh place team finish. The Blue Devils will bring a strong core of four other runners looking to make a splash: Eli Reed, Damien Sands, Jaxon Woodcock, and Ian Halbritter. Reed is ranked 27th in Class B with a speed rating hovering around 125, and returns to the lineup after missing the TVL Championship Meet. Sands is right behind with a 33rd place ranking, and was Camden’s second finisher at the recent TVL Championship Meet. Jaxon Woodcock is ranked 36th in the classification with a rating of 121. Halbritter stepped up as Camden’s third man at the TVL Championships, and is ranked 73rd among rating-eligible runners. With Camden capable of running a tight pack from positions 2-5 in their lineup, the quartet behind Chennells can make a major difference as the Blue Devils look to improve from last year’s eighth place finish.
According to boys’ head coach Nate Donaleski, less-than-perfect conditions in the forecast could also give the Blue Devils an edge on Saturday.
“While the boys might not love running in the cold and rain, they are a tough group that usually outperform the competitors in tough conditions,” he said. “The 42 degree and cold rain will be an advantage!”
