On Monday, March 9th, eight students from Camden High School joined representatives from twelve other schools to take part in the 2026 STEAM Women Rising Symposium hosted by the Project Fibonacci Foundation. The event, held at the Beeches Manor event facility in Rome, serves to inspire young women across the Mohawk Valley to pursue career pathways in science, engineering, technology, arts, and mathematics.

The daylong event included a series of enriching activities, and the opportunity to connect with and gain perspective from highly-regarded female leaders in the region across a variety of professions and industries. Among the entities represented were Mohawk Valley Community College, Indium Corporation, C&D Advertising, On Point for College, AndroMetaX, BAE Systems, Root AI Health, Madison-Oneida BOCES, and Connected Community Schools.

The morning featured the opportunity for students to participate in three small group breakout sessions that aligned with their career aspirations. Among the professional areas to explore were health careers, skilled trades, entrepreneurship, education, creative arts, and technology.

The featured speakers were Dr. Kasey Penoyer, the assistant dean of health sciences and director of dental hygiene at Mohawk Valley Community College, and Gianna Michalak, a clinical nutrition specialist and co-founder of Root AI Health.

The following Camden High School students took part: Samantha MacMurray, Sophia Seitz, Alexis Albrecht, Emma Wilson, Kraygan Poole, Adalyn Whitby, Abigail Miller, and Lily Phelps. They were accompanied by CHS science teachers Heidi Libertella and Kim Dean.
