Volunteers across the U.S. can give back to their communities by participating in the third annual National Historic Marker Day on Friday, April 28. CHS students from the MVCC Dual Credit NYS History class taught by Mrs. Harney have been learning about public history and what they can do to preserve and honor historic places in our own community. Students learned about the historic marker application process, site selection, and cleaning and maintenance. Four students from the class put their skills to the test by cleaning two Camden historic markers in town, the Camden Town Hall and Scriba Patent signs. Students observed and accessed the condition of the signs to determine what additional maintenance could be done down the road if the community chooses to do so. According to the Historical Marker Database, there are more than 177,000 markers in the US. The NYS History students will research to verify if the markers they cleaned are registered with the HBDB.org site. #NationalHistoricMarkerDay #WilliamGPomeroyFoundation

Connected Community Schools Site Coordinator Cole Brown recently went into Mrs. Holmes' classroom during 3rd and 7th period to teach students about job interviews. Students performed mock interviews with their teachers to demonstrate what to do and what not to do during a job interview! Students have also spent class time working on resumes and cover letters, and will be working with Cole on another round of interviews as they get ready for college, trade school, or the job market!

Students in our Design for Drawing and Production classes at CHS recently built Solar Cookers! On Friday, they attempted to roast some hot dogs during a nice 80 degree day. Students had to prepare their device by angling it towards direct sunlight. They recorded the temperature of the meat using a laser thermometer. Every student that tested reached over 100 degrees with the highest temperatures hitting over 145 degrees fahrenheit! The classes were led by Michael Petrie, Jeremy Calkins, and Jake Bates.

Last weekend, the Camden High School Odyssey of the Mind teams attended the New York State Championships in Syracuse! The CHS program was fortunate enough to send two squads to states in this global problem-solving competition. The team participating in the "Pirates and the Treasure" problem placed fifth with a hilarious sketch about "porch pirates", while the team contesting "The Most Dramatic Problem Ever!" placed tenth in New York State! We'll have a full story on how the teams developed their work soon. Congratulations!
