Brittany DerCola receives the Recycling Champion Award on behalf of the district.

The Camden Central School District is pleased to announce that it has been selected by the Oneida-Herkimer Solid Waste Authority as the recipient of the organization’s 2023 Recycling Champion award. The honor was announced on Tuesday, December 19th.

The yearly award recognizes a local business, organization, or school that has taken the initiative to reduce their solid waste stream through reduction, recycling, and proper disposal.

Per the Authority, the District was selected for this honor because of its involvement and usage of the Authority’s school recycling program and resources while working with nearly 2,000 students and hundreds of staff members. Up to this point in the school year, the district has requested recycling boxes and posters, recycling presentations and assemblies and a tour of the Authority’s recycling center.

In addition, the Authority’s Recycling Coordinator, Eileen Brinck, attended one of Camden High School’s Science Club meetings, where the club brainstormed ways in which students can become even more engaged with recycling and waste reduction.

“It’s been really great working with the Camden Central School District,” Brinck said.  “The faculty and staff members that we have been working with have been so enthusiastic about continuing and expanding their recycling program. By doing so, they are teaching their students great habits that will continue into adulthood,” she continued. “The Authority is appreciative of the Camden Central School District’s efforts and is very excited to see where their recycling program goes next.”

Camden Middle School Principal Brittany DerCola attended the Authority’s December 2023 board meeting to accept the Recycling Champion award on the District’s behalf.
