On Friday, March 22nd, a group of 10 student leaders from the Camden Central School District attended a YAC (Youth Activation Summit) hosted by Special Olympics New York at Whitesboro High School. Groups from around the Tri-Valley League participated in a variety of activities centered around inclusivity and whole-school involvement.
There was plenty of inter-scholastic collaboration, and our Camden students made us proud by taking leadership roles in the discussions.
Camden students in attendance were:
Nevaeh Meyers
Ryen Lago
Katherine Redden
Liz Conover
Kinley Snyder
Zack Odom
Adam Gonzalez
Cody Piersall
Zach Giarrusso
Landon Loomis

Olivia Hooker and Billy Bernabe will be representing Camden High School and Section III at the NYSPHSAA Student Leadership Conference in Albany on Wed 3/27 and Thurs 3/28. Both were nominated by their coaches and selected to be this year’s representatives. Billy and Olivia will meet and work with other student leaders from across the state. They will hear keynote speakers: James Orrigo (LAD in a Battle) and Deb Hult (Core Trainings), and work in breakout sessions with the speakers Hult (Core Trainings), Orrigo (Passion to Purpose) as well as Dr. Robert Zayas (NYSPHSAA Executive Director) and the NY Army National Guard.
If you've been following along lately, you may have also noticed both are excelling in their respective sports. Olivia just wrapped up a great volleyball season, and Billy took home a state medal in alpine skiing.
Congratulations!

After school activities for Camden Schools are cancelled on Tuesday, March 19, due to poor weather in the Northern end of the District.
Congratulations to Layla Killino of the Camden Girls' Varsity Basketball team on her TVL Third Team All-Star selection!

Varsity spring track practice started yesterday, and Coach Donaleski couldn't wait to tell us about the turnout for his boys' team this spring! An outstanding 62 athletes have come out for the team on the first day, and some great young talent could be among that group.

Good luck to the boys' bowling program today as the Blue Devils head to the NYSPHSAA Division II State Championships in Syracuse. Session 1 starts at noon. Session 2 at 4 PM.
Tickets available at https://nysphsaa.org/sports/2022/12/12/BowlingTickets.aspx

Is your student looking for a spring sport? How about golf or tennis? The Camden CSD Athletic Department is looking for interested athletes for both sports for the Spring 2024 season. Grades 7-12 are eligible. Please note a Middle School athlete must pass the APP test for varsity tennis competition. High Schoolers can see Mr. Mazzaferro with questions. Middle School students should see Mr. Klatt for more information on how to get started. Once that's squared away, you can register with FamilyID/Arbiter here! https://students.arbitersports.com/organizations/camden-central-schools-athletics

Congratulations to Dillan Melchiore '22 on becoming a National Champion!
Melchiore, representing the University of the Cumberlands, won the 2024 NAIA Indoor National Championship in the 3,000 Meter Racewalk with a time of 12:56.8. The racewalk is an incredibly challenging discipline that is as much a physical test as it is a mental test. Melchiore has also competed at the championship in the 4x800 relay.
Longtime Camden teammate Lizzy Lucason '22 has also been competing at the championship and has an 18th place finish in the one mile run, and her 4x800 relay team put down the tenth fastest time of the prelims.
Way to go!

Congratulations to Billy Bernabe on his performance at the New York State Alpine Skiing Championships earlier this week! Billy tackled the giant slalom course at the world-renowned Whiteface Mountain Ski Center in Lake Placid with a terrific 10th place finish out of 66 competitors!
Way to go!

Congratulations to Camden eighth grader Talon Kimball on placing seventh at the New York State Public High School Athletic Association Championships in Albany! After falling in his championship bracket match, the eighth grader fought his way to the placement matches through the consolation bracket with two wins: One by pinfall, and another by decision. He won the 7th place match with a Major Decision victory.
Did we mention he's only in eighth grade?!?
Congratulations, and here's to a very bright future!

Pictures from Friday's Section III Quarterfinal at Chittenango. Not the result we had hoped for in a 58-53 loss, but certainly an effort to be proud of as the boys battled all the way down to the wire. The Blue Devils wrap up a terrific season at a 16-5 overall record.

Remember.... spring sports registration is in progress! If your student is interested in signing up, please do so soon!
