So far our school has raised $77.97 for Pennies for Puppies/Coins for Kitties! Our goal is $300! Keep sending in those coins!

The next meeting of "Look at Me, I'm Three!" will be held on Wednesday, November 15th! Contact Patti Ferretti to confirm attendance if you will be bringing your child this month. Remember, this free program is for students who are three years old, or will reach age three on or before December 1st, 2023.

McVille Families! Your student's missing item just might be in the lost and found right now! Contact Mrs. Williamson at the front desk if you're missing something.

That is one awesome box of crayons!

A great time was had by all during McConnellsville's Halloween Parade on Tuesday! We were thrilled to have another outstanding turnout in support of our students!

McVille families! It's that time again! The 3rd grade IFA reading group is hosting their "Pennies for Puppies and Coins for Kitties" fundraiser! All you have to do is send your spare change in with your student, and Mrs. Malenowski and her students will take care of getting the funds in the right hands. Proceeds will benefit the Paws for the Cause Rescue in Blossvale to help animals right in our backyard!
Mrs. Malenowski is your best person to contact with questions about this initiative.

Students in Mrs. Malenowski's 2nd grade Reading Group faced a STEM challenge today. They designed and built rafts to see how many pennies could be supported!

We were so honored to welcome children's author Daniel Jude Miller to McConnellsville earlier this week! Miller presented at both elementary schools in our district about authorship, illustration and design. He gave students some great starting points on how to explore authorship themselves, and showed them how with some household items, they can make a "monster" of their own as inspired by his "Monsters in Manhattan" series!
In preparation for the big day, students made monster pictures that were on display in the hallway. Daniel enjoyed them very much!

Last week in art class, Mrs. Hollis's class looked at artwork by George Seurat. 4th graders took inspiration from Seurat's dots to begin creating their own fall leaves out of different colored dots. Great job, 4th graders!

This week in art, Miss Beach’s class used chalk pastels to create glowing spooky scenes. Great job!

McConnellsville students and staff were glowing with their best orange outfits today! It's all part of an important cause called National Unity Day. Created by the National Bullying Prevention Center, Unity Day raises awareness and demonstrates a commitment toward creating a more positive school environment for all.
For more information, go to https://www.pacer.org/bullying/nbpm/unity-day.asp.

Remember to wear orange tomorrow! We are UNITED against bullying!!

Parents/Guardians: Did you know that if you have a child currently enrolled in the District, you are eligible to receive a discount on your monthly internet bill and more?
Join us at Camden Elementary School on the evening of Thursday, October 19th for an informational meeting and registration event for the FCC's Affordable Connectivity Program!
As a Community Eligibility Provision School District for food service, our parents/guardians are automatically eligible to receive a discount through a participating provider. Many popular providers are participating. The program arranges for participants to receive up to $30 off your monthly bill.
Lauren Platt is our coordinator for this event. If you have questions or are unable to make next week's event, reach out to her at lplatt@camdencsd.org and she can point you in the right direction to get started.
While next week's sign-up event is for parents/guardians, you may still be able to qualify for this program through a variety of other criteria, even if you don't have a student with us right now.
The FCC's Affordable Connectivity Program website can tell you more about eligibility criteria besides the Community Eligibility Provision, and give you an idea on how you can get started. The website for the program is located at: https://www.fcc.gov/acp

We have ourselves a special birthday at McConnellsville! Miss Barber's dog, Cannoli, is one year old today! She got permission to bring her four-legged friend in to celebrate with her fourth grade class today!
Happy birthday from all of us!

We had the honor of hosting the McConnellsville Fire Department for today's National Fire Safety Week assembly! Students learned about the basics of fire safety, with a special emphasis paid to this year's national point of emphasis on kitchen fires. Did you know 49 percent of house fires start as part of a cooking-related incident?
They also met firefighters in full gear as a reminder that while they may look scary with all that equipment on, they are here to help protect us. After the indoor portion, students headed outside to tour some trucks and learn more about escaping fires in the department's new inflatable "smokehouse", which can be used to safely demonstrate escape procedures.
Some takeaways for the community to consider:
-Test your smoke detectors once a month, and keep an eye on the batteries. It is advised that you have one on every floor of your home.
-Don't leave your food/cooking appliances unattended when cooking. As a general rule, put appliances in the off position when cleaning them with any sort of cleaning product.
-Be careful with electricity. Overloaded outlets and power strips can be problematic, and you should never plug in a space heater to a power strip.
-Have a plan that includes potential points of entry and exit in the case of a fire emergency. Have a meeting place a safe distance from the home. Practice on occasion.
-Be mindful of fire safety year-round. The risk never takes a day off.
Good fire safety practices are certainly not limited to the points above. When it comes to fire safety, there is no substitute for good judgment in protecting life and property.

October 8th to October 14th is National Fire Safety Week! The McConnellsville Fire Department came to McConnellsville Elementary for their annual assembly today. One of our favorite things about this experience is the number of CCSD alumni in the fire service that you'll see giving back to our schools.
Every person in this picture attended Camden schools at some point in their life, including many who attended McConnellsville Elementary!
Thank you for your dedication in keeping our community safe!

"Look at Me, I'm Three!" is a free pre-K preparation program for students residing in the district who are three years old, or will reach their third birthday on or before December 1st, 2023. At each monthly meeting, you and your child will have the opportunity to work on basic skills for entering Pre-K, and meet their future classmates and teachers in a fun and informal environment. Sessions often include a reading activity, crafts, and a story.
As an added bonus, we will have sign-ups available for Dolly Parton's Imagination Library at this month's meeting! The Imagination Library is one of the largest book-gifting programs on the planet, and registering your child for this free and optional program allows them to receive a book through the mail each month until their fifth birthday!
