On Wednesday, April 9th, the Camden Central School District and Ready 4 Kindergarten held the April meeting of the “Look at Me, I’m Three!” program at Camden Elementary School. Along with their families, 31 children who will be of eligible age to attend Pre-K in Fall 2025 attended. The program is a monthly Pre-K preparation program designed to help students socialize, build relationships with staff, and get acclimated to the school setting ahead of time.
The program began with a mindfulness activity to get our young learners relaxed and focused for story time. Story time for the night included Mrs. Wishy-Washy’s Farm, by Joy Cowley. The book is a silly story about how a cow, pig, and duck didn’t like baths, so they ran away to the city. They realized they were much happier than they realized at the farm.
Following the story, the children completed a themed craft with cow, pig, and duck puppets and a paper bathtub so they can retell the story at home. The evening wrapped up with some dancing to a few children’s favorites by Dr. Jean and Laurie Berkner!

Our District Art Show is May 14th at 6-8pm at Camde High School. All are welcome to attend! There will also be our annual silent auction. All proceeds benefit the Art SCholarship Fund. We hope to see you there!

This week is National Assistant Principals' Week, as recognized each year by the National Association of Secondary School Principals! We'd like to take a moment to recognize our great team members for their dedication to our students and staff!
Dr. Bill Snyder, Camden High School Assistant Principal
Mrs. Sarah Roth-Trnchik, Camden Middle School Assistant Principal
Mrs. Amanda Mitchell, Camden Elementary School Assistant Principal
Mrs. Rebecca Ciotti, Camden High School Dean of Students

Wonder what's inside the StarLab Mobile Planetarium? We joined some of our first graders for their afternoon session with guest instructor Richard Adler yesterday!
Students learned about how the relative position of earth and the sun influences the amount of daylight and our seasons, and about the properties of planets in our solar system. They also learned that some other planets have moons that aren't spherical, and that Neptune has large storms that last long periods of time and can be the size of our entire planet.

The StarLab Mobile Planetarium is back at Camden Elementary School! This unique mobile structure brings the wonder of the stars to students. Our third grade students took their turn yesterday, and today, first grade students are participating. We will check back in with some scenes from our afternoon first grade classes shortly!
The Planetarium is provided through an arrangement with Madison-Oneida BOCES Staff and Curriculum Development in collaboration with Oneida-Herkimer-Madison BOCES.

A Statement from the Camden Central School District Board of Education:
“The Camden Central School District and Dr. Ravo Root, III., have reached an agreement regarding his retirement from service as the District’s Superintendent, effective immediately. The District appreciates Dr. Root’s service, and welcomes Mr. Evangelist as Interim Superintendent for the remainder of the 2024-2025 school year.”

Mrs. Hughes and Mrs. Owens at CES have had their fourth graders exploring energy lately! As part of their lessons, they learned how cars and the human body expend energy in very similar ways.
Fittingly, some very special toy vehicles were brought out to tie the lesson together: Hess Trucks! Who remembers playing with those as a kid?

Before..... and after!!! On Friday, Camden Elementary School held a Poetry Celebration to wrap up its PARP (Pick A Reading Partner/Parents As Reading Partners) month!
As part of that event, we revealed who our masked poetry readers were from our month-long video series! Let's see if you guessed correctly!
Unicorn: Taylor Mulvaney
Gorilla: Michelle Williams
Grumpy Cat: Craig Ferretti
Polar Bear: Nicole Poulin
Turkey: Erin Yager
Deer: Kayla Davis
Thanks to our readers for being great sports! Your efforts have helped our students engage with poetry over the past month, and build valuable student confidence in their literacy skills!

As promised, more pictures from last week's Discovery Expo at Camden Elementary! We truly have so many talented and thoughtful students in the CES Cougar family!

Miss Stone's class at CES recently finished their "Cycles in Nature" unit. To wrap it all up, students got to choose a life cycle they learned about and create a poster!

Just a few of the many wondrous exhibits at last night's Camden Elementary School Discovery Expo! More pics on the way soon!

Like its cousin, the McVille Learning Fair, the CES Discovery Expo is not your everyday science fair. Students get to research a topic of their choice, such as the history of Polaris snowmobiles!

The Camden Central School District is on a 2-hour delay for today, Monday, March 24, 2025. Morning BOCES and Pre-Kindergraten classes are canceled for today. Have a great day and be safe.

It's become a rite of passage at CES. As with Bigfoot, the Loch Ness Monster, or other creatures of legend, our younger learners are fascinated by Leprechauns at this time of year.
In the days leading up to St. Patrick's Day, first grade students use their imagination to come up with elaborate traps to see if they can get a glimpse. And every year, the Leprechauns invade CES, make a mess of first grade, and slip away undetected, despite the brighter and brighter trap ideas employed by our first grade inventors. When they came in today, students saw a few things got moved around, but also found decorations for the holiday!
A full story is coming soon to CamdenSchools.org. While you wait, enjoy these photos of some of our great student projects, and a few reactions from our students!

In the spirit of the holiday, Miss Scheftic's kindergarten class completed a directed drawing of a Leprechaun today!

Our March edition of the "Look at Me, I'm Three!" program was all about Bears!
The group read "Bear Snores On" by Karma Wilson. They learned about hibernation and made "caves" out of paper bags. During the mindfulness portion of the program, our young learners went on a little "bear hunt". As always, the evening also included music from Laurie Berkner and Dr. Jean!
We're excited to see how they're growing as they get closer and closer to their Pre-K eligible year! Information on next month's meeting is coming soon!

At Camden Elementary, Dutch loves to rotate portions of his Pez Collection in the front hallway display case. On display right now is this awesome collection of Mini Pez he has, all the way from Japan! These are typical of the dispensers sold in the country at vending machines or in convenience stores, also referred to as Konbini.
You just might recognize a few characters here!

Happy St. Patrick's Day from Camden Elementary School!
