Blowing bubbles is a summertime favorite - but what about the science behind it? That question will be answered on Monday, July 14th as Connected Community Schools presents this hands-on event at the Camden Elementary School Playground. The program will feature a special guest appearance from our own Steven Keller and his science-crazed alter ego - Professor K!

Student-Athletes and their Families: Take note of these important dates for the 2025-26 school year! Varsity fall sport registration begins on July 18th!

We thought this was a fun courtesy of We Are Teachers with some fun ways to keep your students engaged in reading this summer. Enjoy your first week of summer vacation!

The middle school students were slightly sad to leave the agriculture therapy dogs for the summer. Truth be told the dogs are more disappointed they won't be able to see their "kids" until September.

Some students think that summer equals camping -- whether it's camping with their families in the great outdoors or sleepaway camp. SORA has so many fun suggestions for reading about those subjects for the kiddos to check this summer. Titles include: Camp by Kayla Miller, Horse Camp by Carrie Seim, A Girls Guide to the Wild by Ruby McConnell, Campfire Cooking by Blake Hoena, and How to (Almost) Ruin Your Summer by Taryn Souders. These and so many more fun summer reading books are available on SORA!

CMS Students were ready to get the summer started!
Our staff sure knows how to wave our students off for the summer in style!
Audiobook are another great way to hit those summer reading goals and there are a ton of great series available on the SORA app. Some of those series are: The Diary of a Wimpy Kid, Little House on the Prairie, Front Desk, Wings of Fire, Many of the Rick Riordan series (Percy Jackson, Heroes of Olympus Magnus Chase, and others), and, for our older readers, The Hunger Games series. Have a great summer and keep reading!

The Kindness Club at Camden Middle School decided to hold a fundraiser for the Ronald McDonald House. This organization supports families whose children have significant medical difficulties by helping alleviate associated expenses and logistical hurdles. The club asked each grade level to donate bottle tabs for this organization. Members of Kindness Club collected these tabs each week in homeroom, and they all added up into a sizable donation!
Congratulations to the 7th graders who collected the most bottle tabs! Additionally, the club would like to thank all of the students and their families who took the time to collect bottle tabs for this important cause. Your kindness is greatly appreciated!
July menus are out for the grab-and-go portion of the 2025 Summer Food Service Program! The program, supported by the USDA, offers free meals for any child 18 or under.
The program will run from July 7th to August 22nd on a Monday to Friday schedule. Daily, one-stop pickup service with breakfast and lunch included will take place at Camden Elementary School from 8:30 to Noon on each day of operation.
Questions can be directed to Pearl Romano (promano@camdencsd.org).

Novels in verse are a very popular genre with our students. Some that are available on the Sora app are The Trouble with Heroes. Parts of this book takes place in the Adirondack High Peaks. Alone (and it's companion novel Away) were very popular with our sixth grade students last year. If they didn't get a chance to check them out during the school year, maybe they'd like to over the summer! Deer Run home is a moving story of survival and found family, inspired by a true court case. We were lucky enough to be visited by John Schu, the author of Louder Than Hunger, during the past school year and it was incredible. Mascot is told from several perspectives about the controversy surrounding a school mascot. Finally, Starfish is the story of a young girl who is bullied about her weight. These and many more are available on the Sora app.
Stay tuned tomorrow where I will let you know about some of the audiobook available on Sora.

From two.... down to one. The 2025 Camden Middle School Musical will be..... Beauty and the Beast!

If your students started a graphic novel series over the school year, they may be able to continue reading it on the Sora app. Some of the series that we have in the library that are also on the app include: The Baby-sitter's Club (and Little Sisters), Big Nate, Dog Man, Bad Guys, Nathan Hale's Hazardous Tales, The Sunny Series (Sunny Side Up, etc.), Amulet, Emmie & Friends series, Nat Enough Series, and Phoebe & Her Unicorn series.

The start of summer is a great time to set some new goals! Want to kick off the process and do a fun activity along the way? Join Connected Community Schools for this free event on Wednesday! Contact Val if you have any questions. A good contact number is available in the attached flyer.

The students have been a buzz with the news of Wicked: For Good premiering in the fall. Ahead of the movie, why not read the original source material, The Wonderful Wizard of Oz? Books one and four are available on Sora and you can likely find the entire series at your local library this summer. It would make a great read for the entire family! There is also the first book of the Storymaker series, Spelled, for our older readers. It's a different take on the familiar tale. Check these books out and check back here this week for some more summer reading suggestions.

The 7th grade White Team at CMS (aka the GOAT Team) spent a day enjoying the lovely weather at The Wild and Town of Sullivan Park. The kids enjoyed feeding the giraffes and goats, checking out the monkeys and big cats all while enjoying some quality time together as the school year winds down. This week, they will enjoy their end-of-the-year GOAT Olympics to wrap-up the year-long GOAT Goblet competition that involves academics, attendance, and fun games throughout the year!

Good Morning Blue Devils,
After careful consideration of the conditions, the Camden Central School District will be open on Monday, June 23rd, 2025. All District buildings have power at this time. As a reminder, this is a scheduled half day for Elementary and Middle School students.
We understand that several roads may be impassable for our buses and/or your vehicles at this time. With this in mind, some students may not be able to be picked up today and some bus routes may run noticeably off schedule.
In the event a bus cannot reach you, and you are still capable of bringing your child to school with your own vehicle, you are welcome to do so. If your child is absent because they are unable to be transported to school, it will count as an excused absence for today.
Thank you for your time and consideration as we strive toward a safe opening for staff and students.
