Children's Book Week 2023: Read Books. Spark Change. Landon said Four Eyes by Rex Ogle and Dave Valeza inspired him by seeing the other characters in the book give Rex compliments because of his glasses. The book taught me to always stand up for people and to be kind to someone.

Wednesday's Q&A session with Rick Yarosh of Sweethearts and Heroes was a wonderful experience for our CMS students! The students got a chance to go back and forth with Rick on several topics that helped them understand his experiences. Rick, of Windsor, NY, was a five year veteran of the United States Army who had his life changed forever by an IED explosion during a tour of duty in Iraq. He travels to schools with his organization to spread his message of HOPE (Hold On, Possibilities Exist). As an added bonus, we had the opportunity to see his Purple Heart up close and personal today, which is an especially powerful reminder of what it takes to serve with Veterans Day taking place over the weekend. We would like to thank Rick and his associate Tom Murphy for spending the last two days with our students, and our students for being an incredibly supportive and engaged audience.

Sixth grade students took a deep dive into character development by creating a character autopsy after reading, "The Secret Sheriff of Sixth Grade," by Jordan Sonnenblick. Students used their evidence to “dissect” the traits of a character and discover how the character evolved through the course of the story.

Mr. Paul Miller of the Tug Hill Chapter of Trout Unlimited delivered Brook Trout eggs to Mrs. Lapier, Mrs. Wilcox, and Mrs. Turner's classrooms at CMS. He also delivered eggs to Mr. Janes at Camden Elementary! Students will raise the fish, make connections to their science curriculums, and celebrate with a fish release in the spring of 2024! Thank you to the Tug Hill chapter for their continued support of our Trout in the Classroom program!

Mrs. Willson's math students start each morning by figuring the fraction, decimal, and percent equivalents to how many days we've been in school. Today students determined that we've been in school for 45 days which is 1/4 or 25% of the school year!

Today all CMS students had the opportunity to see the powerful Sweethearts and Heroes presentation. Ask your students what H.O.P.E. means (hold on, possibilities are endless) and about the ABCs that they learned. The presenters Rick Yarosh and Tom Murphy also donated enough food for 25 families for Thanksgiving dinner. It was an AWESOME day at CMS!
