Parents/Guardians: Did you know that if you have a child currently enrolled in the District, you are eligible to receive a discount on your monthly internet bill and more? Join us at Camden Elementary School on the evening of Thursday, October 19th for an informational meeting and registration event for the FCC's Affordable Connectivity Program! As a Community Eligibility Provision School District for food service, our parents/guardians are automatically eligible to receive a discount through a participating provider. Many popular providers are participating. The program arranges for participants to receive up to $30 off your monthly bill. Lauren Platt is our coordinator for this event. If you have questions or are unable to make next week's event, reach out to her at lplatt@camdencsd.org and she can point you in the right direction to get started. While next week's sign-up event is for parents/guardians, you may still be able to qualify for this program through a variety of other criteria, even if you don't have a student with us right now. The FCC's Affordable Connectivity Program website can tell you more about eligibility criteria besides the Community Eligibility Provision, and give you an idea on how you can get started. The website for the program is located at: https://www.fcc.gov/acp

If you're joining us out on Main Street on Saturday, bring your rain gear, your umbrellas and anything else you may need in order to feel comfortable. On Friday, September 29th, members of the Camden Modified Cross Country teams used their practice time for a different purpose. The Blue Devils partnered with CMS Kids for Saving Earth advisor Sarah Falanga and the Camden Lions Club to clean up a portion of Route 69 on Friday. On Saturday, the teams competed alongside the varsity squads at one of their biggest meets of the season: the EJ Herrmann run in Utica. Great job, team!

Today, we’d like to introduce you to Camden Middle School music teacher Micayla MacDougall! Micayla is a graduate of Syracuse University, where she received her bachelor’s and master’s degrees in Music Education. Her favorite thing about being an educator is the opportunity to work with young people and developing a unique connection to each student through music. “The power of music is special and can impact the trajectory of one person's life. And it’s something I have experienced in my own life,” MacDougall said. “The ability of music to do that drew me to music education in order to share that power and to bring it into more young people's lives.” When she’s not sharing a song with her students, she loves to read, paint, cook and attend live music events. She is a huge sports fan who is probably very happy the Bills won this past weekend. Micayla is also an active performing musician outside of her educational pursuits. She performs as a singer independently and with a choir, and plays the bassoon and baritone saxophone. Fun Fact: She makes her own bassoon reeds by hand! Welcome!

Today, members of the girls’ modified soccer team helped the Center for Family Life and Recovery (CFLR) to “Chalk the Walk.” The District works very closely with CFLR and its Camden Life Center to provide mental health services to our school community. The Chalk the Walk event is a proactive opportunity to raise awareness for suicide prevention in our community, and remind people that they are not alone.

We are pleased to announce that as of today, the Camden Central School District has had its new FFA Chapter formally recognized by the New York State FFA Association! The chapter will provide agriculture-centered educational opportunities to students at Camden Middle School and Camden High School that build off the in-class curriculum. We hosted the full slate of state FFA officers this morning for a Charter Signing Ceremony at CMS. Our students were able to share lunch with state-level leadership, give them a tour of our growing agriculture programs, and learn more about the experiences that await them as part of FFA. Congratulations to our students, as well as dedicated advisors Karly Marshman and Brianne Willson for making this happen! Be on the lookout for a full story coming to CamdenSchools.org!

Today, we’d like to (re)introduce you to Kaylee Pietroski (Turner) ‘16! Our Class of 2016 valedictorian and senior class president is back with us teaching seventh grade math with the blue team at Camden Middle School! She attended Clarkson University for her undergraduate and graduate degrees. Before coming back to her home school district, she taught high school students in Kailua, Hawaii. Mrs. Pietroski loves getting to make connections with students, getting out in the community, and helping to foster a love of learning. She has found a welcoming atmosphere in the District, and finds herself working alongside many people who once taught her. “I have enjoyed how welcoming everyone has been, from my team members to administration to athletics and everywhere in between,” she said. When she’s not helping her students make sense of the numbers in front of them, she is probably on the go. Kaylee loves soccer and has been coaching with our program here. She also loves going to the gym, playing with her son, spending time with her husband and family, and experiencing the beauty of the world through travel. We’re sure it’s been said a few times already, but welcome home!

The Agriculture elective class celebrated Apple Day! 🍎 Students were able to hear the tale of how the apple got it's star, watch a clip on apple orchards, and also enjoyed comparing and contrasting "wild" apples and store bought/orchard grown apples. Students taste tested the apples and learned about apple varieties.
