Board of Education
Board Of Education
The Board of Education is the official policy-making body of the school district. Members are responsible for carrying out the laws and regulations pertaining to the education of students. The Board adopts school district policies, curriculum, programs of study, and approves the hiring of all personnel, as well as, establishing the conditions of employment. The Board of Education is comprised of seven district residents who are elected by voters to three-year terms and are not compensated for their work as members.
Commensurate with New York State Law, the Board of Education membership now includes one non-voting, ex-officio student member, and an alternate to serve in the same role. This role provides students with the opportunity to participate in the governance process in an advisory role, while also keeping the board apprised of matters and events from a student's perspective.
Seated with the Board at meetings are the Superintendent of Schools, the Assistant Superintendent for Instruction, Assistant Superintendent for Business, and the Board Secretary.
All positions on the Board are considered to be At-Large positions and are not divided by areas or jurisdictions.
