The Camden Central School District has a vacancy in the transportation department, effective immediately, for the following position: Head Bus Driver
Wage: $30 per hour
Health Insurance, NYS Retirement, 8 hours/day, 40 hours/week, 11 Month Position
Position Summary:
This is supervisory work involving responsibility for the safe and efficient operation of buses within a school district transportation system. The position of Head Bus Driver differs from that of a Transportation Director, when employed as the top transportation position, in that the operation is smaller in scale and does not include responsibility for supervising or directing the repair and maintenance of school buses. When working alongside a Transportation Director, the Head Bus Driver is responsible for overseeing driver functions. The work is performed under the general supervision of either a Transportation Director or another designated superior, in accordance with established policies and procedures. Supervision of Bus Drivers is exercised through observation and review of procedures. The incumbent performs related duties as required by the Transportation Director.
Primary Responsibilities:
â—Ź Prepares or assists in preparation of bus routes and schedules;
â—Ź Assigns drivers to regular and special field trips;
â—Ź Interviews prospective drivers and recommends them to supervisor for hiring;
â—Ź Calls and assigns substitute drivers;
â—Ź Maintains time records for payroll purposes;
â—Ź Maintains trip records and prepares transportation reports including accident reports, bus mileage and gas and diesel fuel used;
â—Ź Trains new drivers and assigns them to individual routes;
â—Ź Checks the operation and cleanliness of buses;
â—Ź Receives and refers complaints or questions concerning transportation services;
â—Ź Keeps a continuing check on the maintenance and operation of all school district buses;
â—Ź Assists in resolving student disciplinary problems on school buses;
â—Ź Ensures, where applicable, that school transportation operations conform with State laws and regulations;
â—Ź Consults with supervisor regarding unusual problems;
â—Ź Prepares a variety of records and reports related to work;
â—Ź Assures adequate trained substitute bus drivers are available;
â—Ź May arrange for drivers and buses for special transportation activities;
â—Ź May assist in preparing transportation, budget estimates and recommendations;
â—Ź May advise the supervisor of road hazards which may necessitate school closings;
â—Ź Operate a school bus on a regular route or as a substitute.
â—Ź Other duties as assigned by the Transportation Director
Qualifications:
â—Ź High School Diploma or GED
â—Ź Clean driving record
â—Ź 3 or more years of experience in the operation of buses
â—Ź CDL ( P&S Endorsement), Eligible to and will acquire 19A certification
â—Ź Ability to pass background checks, fingerprinting, drug/alcohol screening, and the bus driver physical
â—Ź Strong communication and interpersonal skills
â—Ź Dependable and punctual
Work Schedule:
â—Ź Morning and afternoons, additional hours may be available for field trips or extracurricular activities.
â—Ź Example hours (for illustrative purposes only. Exact hours may vary): 5:00 am - 9:00 am, 1:00 pm-5:00 pm
