Scholar-Athlete Teams

The Camden Central School District athletic department is pleased to announce that all ten of its competing winter varsity sports teams earned Scholar-Athlete Team honors from the New York State Public High School Athletic Association for the 2025-26 season. The awards were announced recently by the Association based in Albany.

The honors reward excellence in the classroom while balancing the challenges of playing a varsity-level or unified-level sport.

To receive the Scholar-Athlete Team recognition, the average GPA of the top 75 percent of a team’s roster must be greater than or equal to 90 percent. Only students with a average of 90 or above on each recognized team receive the scholar-athlete pin, while non-qualifying athletes included in the 75 percent calculation receive a certificate for being part of a Scholar-Athlete Team.

Leading the way for Camden was a total of 75 qualifying scholar-athletes, led by a dozen athletes in the girls' varsity wrestling team.

The honors continue a wave of positive momentum in the classroom for the department, with all eight fall varsity teams also receiving the award. If Spring's varsity/unified teams also achieve scholar-athlete team status across the board, the department could receive the highly-coveted "NYSPHSAA School of Distinction" honor for the first time since the program was launched in 2005. The District most recently received the “School of Excellence” honor, given to schools that have 75 percent of its varsity teams achieve Scholar-Athlete Team honors, in the 2023-24 school year.
