Gonzalez and Meagher Named Athletes of the Year

The Camden High School Varsity Club, in partnership with the Camden Central School District Athletic Department, is pleased to announce its 2025-26 Athletes of the Year. The honors were voted on by all paid JV and Varsity coaches within the department. This year’s honorees are senior Adam Gonzalez, and sophomore Rylie Meagher.

Gonzalez receives the Male Athlete of the Year award for a second consecutive year to close out a sparkling athletic career with the Blue Devils. He has become a fixture in the starting lineup for three varsity sports - football, basketball, and baseball.

On the gridiron, Gonzalez was a record-setting quarterback with benchmarks set for competitions in a single game, passing yards in a single game, passing yards in a single season, and touchdown passes in a single season. He also holds the program’s top spot for touchdown passes in a career. On the basketball court, he was a TVL Pioneer Division first team all-star. The team MVP averaged 15.8 points, 4 rebounds, and 2.5 steals per game as a senior while serving as team captain. On the baseball diamond, he finished with over 100 career hits, made an incredible 98.5 percent of his defensive plays, and led his squad to a 61-27 record in his time in Blue and White. He earned a staggering 92% of the Coaches’ votes.

Meagher is receiving the Female Athlete of the Year award for the first time, and is the second consecutive member of the Class of 2028 to earn the nod. During the 2025-26 school year, the sophomore delivered some of her most prolific contributions yet in team and individual competition across three sports: field hockey, wrestling, and softball.

In field hockey, Meagher was an All-State, TVL All-Star, and All-Mohawk Valley selection for her work at the center midfield position. She scored six goals and nine assists, and was part of both the offensive and defensive penalty corner units. Of her six goals, none was bigger than her overtime winner against Whitesboro in the Section III Class B semifinals, which broke a scoreless tie and propelled the Blue Devils back to the Section III title game.

On the wrestling mat, Meagher completed her fourth season as one of the program’s pioneering wrestlers. The sophomore was the Section III Champion at 120 lbs, and went on to place sixth at the New York State Public High School Athletic Association State Championships in Albany. Meagher was chosen as an All-CNY Selection for her efforts, which yielded a 31-9 record.

In softball, Meagher was Camden’s first year starter at second base, and went on to play every inning for the Blue Devils. She batted .324 with five extra base hits and 25 runs batted in to make a strong case for the yet-to-be-released TVL All-Star Teams.

Gonzalez received his award at Class Night on Friday, June 5th. Meagher received her award on Monday June 8th during the Awards Night festivities.
