NYSPHSAA State Meet - June 13th and 14th - Marah Johnson and Brenden Chennells

Sophomore Marah Johnson and junior Brenden Chennells will represent Camden and all of Section III at the New York State Public High School Athletic Association Spring Track and Field Championships on Saturday, June 13th, and Sunday, June 14th. This year’s championship will be contested at Webster Schroeder High School located in the Rochester suburbs.

How They Got Here: Both athletes landed in the championship after standout performances in the Section III State Qualifier Meet held on June 3rd and 4th at Cicero-North Syracuse. Johnson improved on her own school record while securing victory at 100 meters with a time of 12.51 seconds. After multiple near-misses at state qualification in both track and cross country, Chennells turned the tables on his competition by defeating the very same athlete that denied his state chances in 2025, with a winning time of 1:57.86 at 800 meters to lock in a spot for 2026 and improve upon his own school record.

When They Run: Marah will run in the Class B 100 meter prelims set for approximately 11:03 AM Saturday. If successful, she would run again in Sunday’s final. Brenden will contest the 800 meter final at 11:50 AM Saturday. Events will be permitted to run as many as 15 minutes ahead of schedule.

On The Seed Sheets: Brenden is the 15th overall seed in Class B, and the 40th overall seed among all classifications in what is traditionally one of the toughest state meet fields in the nation in the middle and long distances. Marah will enter the Class B 100 meter field with the twelfth-best seed time.
