From June 13th to 15th, four Camden High School sophomores participated in an intensive leadership development program by participating in the Central New York region Hugh O’Brien Youth Leadership (HOBY) seminar. Selected student ambassadors Aubrey Mitchell, Adam Orsino, Kamryn Gloude, and Laura Albrecht took part in a multi-day summit at Hobart and William Smith Colleges in Geneva, NY.
HOBY is an event for high school sophomores to capitalize on their leadership potential with a program based on three leadership perspectives: Personal, group, and societal. At a HOBY seminar, students experience life on a university campus, interact with local community leaders through panels, presentations, and group discussions about real world challenges, participate in hands-on activities that test their skills, form relationships with their peers and working professionals, and conduct a service project to exhibit servant leadership.
After each seminar, HOBY alumni are challenged to complete 100 hours of community service within the next year as a way to put their passion and newly built leadership skills into action.
Camden High School has been sending students to this event for over a quarter-century, and the District is pleased to continue providing this opportunity with the support of the Tuthill Foundation.
