Miss Barber and Mrs. Brazie's Classes

This August, The Camden Central School District has partnered with Madison-Oneida BOCES to offer two exciting grade level bridge programs at McConnellsville Elementary School.

Rising fourth grade students in the District’s Brain Gain Institute program recently completed a craft project that fittingly focused on the brain. The group learned about the anatomy of the human brain by using paper cutouts to assemble and label its parts on posters. Those viewing the posters in the hallway can lift up each part of the brain to reveal facts about that part’s function.

Meanwhile, rising second graders did a special craft project with Mrs. Kuc. The project was based on the book “It Looked Like Spilled Milk.”

Students applied white paint on blue paper, and then folded or squished it together to create a design. They were then asked to interpret what their design looked like, and add details to bring their vision to life.

144 students are participating in the Institute, which helps students acclimate to the upcoming academic year by building age-appropriate skills and forming relationships. The program’s focus is based on core standards for reading, writing, and mathematics.

Camden is also offering a “Kindergarten Boot Camp” program. This program is designed to ease the transition from the pre-kindergarten to kindergarten classroom environment through play-based learning and the establishment of essential skills. 55 students are enrolled in the program.

Brain Gain Institute is a Madison-Oneida BOCES LEAP Summer Enrichment Program, while Kindergarten Boot Camp operates under the umbrella of the MOBOCES Ready 4 Kindergarten initiative.
