Our new Digital Media and Broadcasting cabin has been extremely busy in just a few days! Right now, the group is examining the parts of a news story to understand structure, and are reading aloud to practice their delivery. They have already made their first camp-wide commercial for the Tycoon Junior business cabin, and are getting ready to film another shortly!

For a few minutes, the CMS Auditorium became CBS Television City in Hollywood as the Plinko Board came out at the end of Tuesday's CSMF session. Camp Plinko is always serious business, but the adults in the room know that the real drama starts in the Showcase Showdown....

The CSMF "Drama Central" cabin is preparing for next week's big production! On Wednesday, July 24th, at 9:45 AM, the Cabin will present "The Three Little Pigs Rap" by Australian playwright Val Neubecker! Get ready for The Three Little Pigs like you've never seen them before – with a hip-hop twist! Mom and Dad Pig tell their kids, Bacon, Ham and Pork, that it's time to fly the coop! So, the three little pigs set off to build their own homes. One is made of straw, one is made of sticks, but the third pig's house is made of bricks. Then, the Big Bad Wolf comes huffing and puffing- all of the houses fall, except Pork’s brick built house! But here's the cool part: the wolf doesn't get mad, he just chills with the pigs. They build the most awesome nature kingdom, and the wolf is the star of the show! Everyone learns, "Whatever in your life you plan, make sure you do the best you can!”

On Tuesday, Mrs. Mitchell and Mrs. Gonzalez's Culinary Camp had a waffle and pancake cooking challenge. Camp administrators were able to judge homemade Belgian waffles and pancakes on taste and presentation. Campers earned extra camp bucks if their team got the most points. Of course all campers were able to make and enjoy their own homemade waffle or pancakes with toppings and homemade whipped cream! Yum!!

Early Tuesday afternoon, the CSMF Drones Cabin welcomed Trooper Kaido from Troop D of the New York State Police! Trooper Kaido taught students about how remote piloted aircraft are utilized in law enforcement, and performed a flight demonstration behind the middle school. The students challenged him to land the drone on home plate, and he was happy to oblige. Thanks for coming to visit our students!

It's safe to say that this drone attracts attention. As part of the CSMF Drones Cabin Curriculum, students focus on learning about career opportunities in Remote Piloted Aircraft Systems. For example, this massive drone is used for agriculture purposes as a crop sprayer. It not only has enough power to propel itself, but a payload of over 180 lbs over a defined area. For scale, take a look at the FourSquare court underneath it. Impressive! The students had another cool visitor this afternoon. Stay tuned to find out who!
