District Statement Regarding Lockout on July 30th.
On Tuesday, July 30th, The Camden Central School District received a report of shots fired on Preston Hill Road near the shared boundary between the Town of Camden and the Town of Vienna.
In the interest of student and staff safety, we initiated lockout procedures at all District buildings until advised by the Oneida County Sheriff's Office that it was safe to resume standard entry and exit protocol at approximately 9:15 AM.
Law Enforcement responded to the scene of the alleged incident, and their investigation determined that no shots were fired, and the concern was brought about by an engine backfire from a passing vehicle at that location. At no time do we believe that our staff or students were in any imminent danger. We will continue to be proactive in our response to matters that may potentially affect the safety of our students and staff.
