Did you know that Camden students can participate in high school ice hockey? Camden is a participating school in the Mohawk Valley Jugglers combined hockey team that competes in Section III competition each winter. Camden students Brodie and Evan Buckingham are on the team currently, along with students from 10 other area districts. The team relies on fundraising to stay on the ice, and could use your support at their upcoming golf tournament to be held at Stonebridge Golf Club in New Hartford on Friday, August 4th. Registration is at 8 AM, and golf begins with a "shotgun" start on the course at 9 AM. The cost is 100 dollars per person, which includes greens fees, cart, lunch, beverages, dinner, on-course contests, door prizes, and of course, important resources for the team to compete this winter. Sponsorship packages are also available for interested businesses. To register, learn more about the tournament, or learn about sponsorship, click this link: https://drive.google.com/file/d/1_mb2BfvBLuVCgptyv3QCJlJv4dkzpqY0/view?usp=sharing Questions can be directed to Cyndi Posello (315) 292-8145, or to Megan Buckingham at MBuckingham@camdencsd.org. The agriculture cabin had a moo-ving and grooving day learning about cattle on Wednesday! Mrs. Willson, a local dairy farmer and Math teacher at Camden Middle School, took time to educate students at Camp-Sum-More-Fun about the dairy industry and her farm. "Happy" was also a welcomed visitor, and students even had the opportunity to learn how to milk a cow! Check back in later to see what Thursday was all a-"baaaa"-out! CSMF is a program coordinated in partnership with Madison-Oneida BOCES.

The human side of what we do is so important, but sometimes a statistic or two helps you grasp the gravity of the work we do every day. Let's start off our Friday with a fun fact about our awesome food service team. Throughout the 2022-23 school year, our team served up over 300,000 meals between breakfast and lunch that kept our students going each day. We appreciate every member of our food service team for the work they do for our students during the year, and during our summer programs.

During the Summer, kids can still eat free at Camden Schools! We offer free breakfast and lunch to anyone 18 years of age and under until August 18th as part of our summer nutrition program. Students enrolled in our summer programs, such as these students from Camp Sum-More-Fun, have these meals included as part of their daily schedule. However, all children are welcome to come and receive meals even if they don't participate in summer programming through the district. A schedule of locations and serving times is included here!

The look of curiosity and amazement on a student's face when they take the controls of a drone will never get old. Whether they're interested in remote piloted aircraft, or perhaps stepping into the cockpit to become a licensed pilot, getting to work with drones in schools is a great opportunity for any young aviation enthusiast, and something we're proud to offer during Camp Sum-More-Fun.

In the world of Camp Sum-More-Fun, camp bucks are extremely valuable. They can be used to redeem for prizes in the camp store operated by our "Tycoon Junior" business group. A great way to earn them is on a trip inside the "Money Machine", where students are given the chance to grab as much as they can in just over ten seconds. We saw a lot of happy faces take their turn on Wednesday!

Camp is back in session! Wednesday marked the third day of our summer enrichment program called “Camp Sum-More-Fun”. Over 400 students in grades K-9 are taking part in this award-winning educational program for the 2023 season at Camden High School. Our K-2 students, the “Happy Campers”, explore a wide variety of age-appropriate STEAM activities. Students in grades 3-8 are known as the “Explorers” group, and are enrolled into subject-based “cabins” where they can explore an area of their choice such as drones, culinary arts, agriculture, business, music, and theatre. We have also added a ninth grade “leadership” group for the first time. A select group of students were chosen to offer peer mentorship and leadership education opportunities to the younger campers.

In our Wednesday session, we saw an incredible racing drone demonstration, craft activities with our “Tycoon Junior” business group, spirited competition from the “Ninja Warriors” group, and an AWESOME science presentation by “Professor K” at our closing ceremony (We’ll have video shortly!). Stay tuned for plenty of content as CSMF continues!
