Amidst a remarkable group of actors, a spot in the finals wasn't in the cards today. But the journey and the experience were a prize all their own. This weekend, Gage Grinnell got to live out a dream held by so many, but accomplished by so few. He studied in workshops at Julliard, saw a performance of the 2025 Tony Award winner for Best Musical, performed at Lincoln Center, and became the first Camden student in 33 years to reach this level of the National Shakespeare Competition. He has done so well by all that have come before him, and has set an incredible example for all who will follow in the CHS Drama Club and CHS Theater Classes. Way to go!

We have a new school record! Congratulations to Brenden Chennells on setting a new track and field program benchmark in the 400 Meter Hurdles, which he achieved on Friday at the Cahill Classic hosted by Sauquoit Valley! His time of 57.68 seconds broke the previous school record by .59 seconds, and was the winning time at the meet by nearly three seconds!

Brenden is a junior, but we'd also like to take a chance to tell you that Senior Day festivities for Track and Field will be held at Wednesday's home dual meet. Come on out!

Last week in Intro to Solid Modeling with Mr. Calkins, we also saw ongoing work taking place on the furniture for the upcoming "Senior Lounge" at CHS. Technology students have been working hard on the furniture components between other projects throughout the year. The pieces you see here are getting welded together to form table legs!

Perseverance means you keep working to achieve your goals, even when it's difficult. To demonstrate this important trait, a group of McConnellsville staff members played a little game in front of students and colleagues at Friday's Character Assembly. Their objective? To stick a book of about twenty sticky notes all over themselves, and then dance until all of them fell off. That was not as easy as it sounded, but the whole group kept going until someone completed the task. As you can imagine, the end result was pure hilarity.

Congratulations to our winner, Mrs. Sadie Williamson!

In addition to our awards for the month, an awesome bit of news was shared with the staff, students, and family members in attendance. We'll have more on that particular announcement around the middle of next week. Stay tuned!

Let's Talk Tech!

This week in Intro to Solid Modeling with Mr. Calkins, students are working on this steel flower sculpture project. The stem of the flower is built from a short length of 1/4 inch diameter steel rods. The petals, which are done in layers, are created with 20 gauge sheet steel that is cut out using tin snips. Six holes are tapped and drilled in each cutout, with the center providing a pilot for the stem, and the five additional holes providing extra separation between the petals to make them easier to adjust and manipulate. From there, students use pliers to bend the petals into their desired shape, and a coat of paint is applied. For a finishing touch, students are tasked with creating a base using leftover material of their choice.

On Monday, April 20th, students in Mrs. Malenowski's third grade reaading group at McConnellsville were treated to a visit by 6th grade science teacher Mrs. Lapier and her guinea pig friends Max and Rocky! Organized. Dedicated. Essential. Today we celebrate the incredible administrative professionals of the Camden Central School District!

When you call, they’re probably the first voice you hear. They have a steady presence that keeps it all together, and they’re problem solvers who wear many hats. Their impact is felt in every classroom, and by every member of our school community.

Today, and every day, we are grateful for all that you do to make a difference!

The Camden Central School District Art Department is seeking donations for its annual art auction to be held at our K-12 art show on May 13th (Save that date, folks!) Donations do not need to be traditional visual art like drawings and paintings. Crafts like handmade jewelry, greeting cards, etc would be great donations too!

If you have any questions, contact Amy Andrews (aandrews@camdencsd.org)

Players and coaches from the Camden Baseball and Softball programs spent their morning helping others by participating in the Oneida County Youth Bureau's Intergenerational Spring Cleanup. The Blue Devils were out and about helping some area seniors with some spring yardwork so they can enjoy the nice weather to its fullest in the weeks and months ahead. Cleanups are held each Fall and Spring with area schools, colleges, and youth groups working throughout the county. Camden students have often participated in this important effort, including the last four years under Director of Athletics Josh Mazzaferro. For more information on the intergenerational cleanup events, including how you can get involved in the future, the Oneida County Youth Bureau website is located at https://ocgov.net/departments/youth-bureau/. If you know someone who would like assistance as part of future cleanup events, contact the Oneida County Office for Aging and Continuing Care. Their website can be found at https://ocgov.net/departments/office-for-aging-and-continuing-care/news-and-events/.

We've got plenty of memorable performances between now and then, but mark your calendars for the Camden High School Drama Club's Coffee House event! This year's event will be held on Wednesday, June 10th at 6 PM. Come and see our students on stage for the last time this school year in an informal, variety show setting. This will also mark the final time on stage as CHS students for our seniors! More information to follow at a later date.

Earlier this week, students in Mrs. Malenowski's fourth grade IFA reading group at McConnellsville were given an empty tissue box, and instructed to turn it into their favorite character from the book they just finished: Eyes and the Impossible by Dave Eggers. There were some pretty creative results!
